ASTRALIS GOES DOWN THIS TIME AROUND AT THE PGL STOCKHOLM MAJOR

  • Astralis bites the 1-2 bracket’s dust
  • dupreeh with the most eliminations
  • Couldn’t even break the fall

Brackets come, and brackets go at the PGL Stockholm Major, but it was Astralis’ turn to get the blunt end of the stick. The defending champs got skinned at the derby and bit the 1-2 bracket’s dust despite their apparently steadfast “champion-itude” (is that even a word…)

ASTRALIS GO SENT REELING INTO THE BRACKET ABYSS

Yes, these Danish got squashed in their pastry box: they were taken down in the third round of Legends Stage at the at the Counter Strike: Global Offensive PGL Stockholm Major and got a 1-2 bracket to show for their undesired ‘doneness’.

‘Twas Heroic that did the deed: they took down the defending champs while carving out their own niche in the 2-1 bracket in a very unexpected (yet always plausible) upset. Especially weird, since both Heroic and Astralis were at pretty similar levels during the tourney: they both got over the Challengers stage as 3-2 squads, and everything had the makings to be a fierce, one-on-one clash between equals… Not.

WHAT WENT DOWN (BESIDES ASTRALIS)

With a recalcitrant team spirit, Heroic dominated the CT side on Ancient, winning 13 rounds in the first half. Astralis then dropped both the second pistol and a follow-up round, and the outlook was looking pretty bleak for them. In an all-out moment, Astralis got their shite together and got a second wind (from past victories, I presume) managing to pry away and steal five of the rounds, but, alas, to no avail. (That ship had already sailed, dudes.) Heroic was having none of it, of course, and rebuilt themselves after a few losses, closing the game in a sweeping, “you’ll pry our dominance from our cold dead hands” 16-7 that killed off the other Danish.

Particularly influencing were Stavn on Heroic’s side, spearheading with a whopping 26/11 K/D ratio, and dupreeh on the Astralis side, getting a hold of the squad’s leaderboard with 21 eliminations, beating Magisk by 12.

SPANK THE DUST OFF

Astralis are now in the fugly position of getting back up on their feet, spanking off the dust, and climbing out of the 1-2-bracket hole they themselves dug. On the other hand, Heroic will be trying to qualify for the playoffs on Monday, with all the potential they showed against Astralis. Still, cadiaN’s team, like all the rest of the teams, are always up for a possible unexpected upset. You can BET on that!
