CS:GO TEAM LIQUID REPLACES EVIL GENIUSES IN IEM GLOBAL CHALLENGE

It’s time for Evil Geniuses to go into hibernation, and they won’t be popping up until 2021. They have pulled out of the IEM Global Challenge because of… yup, you guessed it: COVID-19 travel restrictions. The team revealed last November 23rd they all had their travel setup canceled and wouldn’t be traveling until further notice; they didn’t even get to compete in the BLAST Fall Showdown event.

Sooooo, ESL recently announced that it’s Team Liquid that will be replacing the Evil ones at the Global Challenge, which is a bit of a step-down, but actually not that much. Team Liquid has been dubbed the second-best team in the CS:GO realm of North America by ESL, just a tad below Evil Geniuses, so it figures they would be the next in line to be directly invited to replace EG at the CS:GO event. Just so you know, Evil Geniuses placed 9th at the ESL world rankings, while Liquid sport a 13th place.

Team Liquid Replaces Evil Geniuses

Liquid, as part of the North American teams which also include Chaos, have to shove themselves towards Europe to be able to participate in the event, even though the tournament is logically going to be held online because of the insufferable pandemic restrictions. Which is not something that can actually dull the fact that it’s the last major CS:GO tournament of this heinous year, having had the BLAST 2020 Fall Finals take place just before it. Moreover, since it’s a $500,000 major event, that’s definitely nothing to tuck under the rug.

Liquid will be facing some of the world’s best teams at the challenge, namely Chaos, Complexity, FURIA, Astralis, Na’Vi, Heroic, and Vitality; the event will be taking place from December 15th through December 20th.
