VALVE SLAPS CS:GO RIO MAJOR QS WITH REGIONAL RANKINGS
Valve and ESL were in the mood to redesign the qualification system for the $2,000,000 ESL One Rio CS:GO Major and have introduced a regional ranking-based qualification system for the upcoming event.
ESL One Rio was scheduled to take place in May, but got kicked back to November due to the corona bug. –Just like everything else on the planet! – It got joined up with the second CS:GO Major for this year, and will be up in the last month of the year with a $2,000,000 prize pool. Tasty huh?
The new qualification circuit will have as a first event the ESL One: Road to Rio, an online tournament made up of 56 teams distributed across six major regions. This first event will be running –don’t get your hopes high too soon- from April 22-May 17 with $225,000 in the prize pool. This is a way to fill up the scheduling blank left by the cancelation of the Rio Major event.
There will be NO regional Minors preceding the Rio Major, and the Regional Major ranking points will be available at future events; problem is, nobody knows which yet. Really bro? -_-
OVERWATCH LEAGUE RELEASED ITS WEEK 9 MATCH PROGRAM AND ONLINE PLAY FORMAT
The remainder of the 2020 season is going to take place online, said the Overwatch League after releasing its week-nine match schedule.
The online format really comes as no surprise, as the corona thing doesn’t seem to be wanting to let up any time soon. So: no showing the potential of its location based home and away format, no nothing. Still, it’s good they’re keeping things rolling and not corona-frozen (not like the beer, sadly.)
Week nine matches have the 4 Chinese teams pitted against each other, plus the Houston Outlaws, Paris Eternal, everyone except the Vancouver Titans, Seoul Dynasty and London Spitfire, since they are left out of the program waiting for teams to get established after relocating to Korea; the New York Excelsior is supposed to be doing the same thing.
