Betting Bests For DOTA2 Matches

With esports picking up the slack where regular sports left off, having been benched for coronareasons, betting on esports has become the highlight, especially for some titles.

Betting on esports isn’t just about picking teams to win. It’s not that lame. There’s a whole layout of lines which bookies offer for you to get all sorts of chills & thrills; I mean it’s different actions with different risks, rewards… it’s a paradise betting jungle out there! Check out if you can’t wrap your mind around this.

Now, let’s take Dota 2 matches, for instance. Each title has a market for each aspect, and Dota 2 has markets for series, maps, and particular in-game moments. These are the most common side markets for Dota 2:

  1. Over/Under

Number of Total Maps Played in a Series

Dota 2 tournaments regularly follow best-of-3 or best-of-5 formats; this makes betting on the total number of maps played in a series very unsure, but that is precisely what makes this side market the most popular in esports betting. Just remember different betting providers have different betting approaches for this.

If you should choose the under bet winning if the series ends with a 2-0 score in either direction, in an over/under at 2.5 maps on a best-of-3 series, the over bet will be successful if the series goes to the full three maps. You dig?

  1. Maps Won Handicaps

Picks on how many maps are won by one of the teams makes a nice couple with bets on the number of maps played in a series. But, depending on the betting provider, they can be offered as over/under or as pick the exact number of maps won in a series.

Here’s a little picture we drew up for you guys who don’t get it: If you bet on a best-of-5 series between Team X and Team B, an over/under on Team X winning 1.5 maps will see under pay off if Team X loses the series 3-0 or 3-1; the over, on the other hand, pays off if Team X loses the series 3-2 or wins with any score.

  1. Roshan Kills on Map

Roshan, the epic monster in the Dota 2 map river cave, is the betting high here. Both teams have the chance to do away with him for gold and XP, the Aegis of the Immortal, etc. Since bookies have taken a liking to him for being a nice, high-value target, he is part of the action in many ways.

Some bookies offer an over/under on how many times Roshan is killed in a map, other offer lines on which team makes roadkill of Roshan during a map, others offer lines resembling series winner (since Roshan typically has to do with an endgame push.) Either way, the times Roshan will be killed is tough to elucidate, so that accounts for a very high value.

  1. Dota 2 Match Series Final Score

These bets are basically the same as picking the number of games won by a team, but a little more straightforward.

In the little picture painted above between Teams X and B, you friendly neighborhood betting providers might offer a bet on Team B winning the series with a 3-2 score. Functionally, this is right up there with a bet on Team X winning 2 maps during the series, and has the same line as a result. Remember, these bets get considerably stronger payouts due to more RISK.

  1. Winner of Map 1/2/3/4/5

Yep, you can bet on who will win a specific map during a series. Perceived skill gap between teams plays a great part here, and it remains consistent for each game.

  1. Team Scoring First Blood on a Map

A player gets First blood in this title when he scores the first kill of the map on an opposing hero and gets a greater reward for the kill as a result. Providers will often offer lines on which team scores first blood on a particular map.

  1. Odd or Even Kill Total in Map or Series

Picking odds or evens on the total kill count is the definite 50-50 odds Dota 2 bet. These markets are offered by most bookies for individual maps and/or for the series as a whole.
