eMLS Cup 2021: The Online-Only Format is Here to Stay!

In spite of the initial logistics hurdles caused by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the folks behind the MLS’ esports organization worked extra hard to keep the eMLS flame alive during 2020, and they haven’t stopped since then!

According to a recent email sent by EA Sports to the GamesBeat, a gaming division of online media platform VentureBeat.com, preparations for the event began in earnest as soon as the 2020 edition ended; EA also stressed the fact that they plan on keeping on with the same  “fully remote tournament environment” format used for last year’s iteration.

The upcoming eMLS Cup 2021 kicks off by 12:20 am Pacific time on Saturday, March 20th, and it will continue throughout until Sunday, by 4 pm approx. It will feature a total of 27 MLS Clubs, now  including St. Louis CITY SC and Inter Miami CF, who earned their tickets via the eMLS’ Last Chance Qualifiers from only a couple of days ago.

Apart from the regular schedule of eMLS matches, the event will also include a series activities intended for the enjoyment of fans and players alike, such as the EA Sports FIFA PS5 Tournament: eMLS Fan Challenge (64 players will compete for tons of different prizes), Giveaway contests and charitable/social campaigns.

Lest we forget, there’s also the opportunity of snatching your own limited-edition eMLS jersey. All revenues will go to a Special Olympics fund.
