Global Competition set for 2021
The teams are to begin in regional competitions before going on to the next and international stage, and from then on, towards the championship. Senior director of esports Whalen Rozelle commented, “We’ve spent a couple of years now talking to players, teams, fans, prospective partners, and other stakeholders, and we’re extremely excited to launch our first official season.” The VALORANT Champions Tour’s structure will consist of a three-tiered event plan, with the Challengers level featuring events in Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa, and Australia. Teams still holding out in the competition will then participate in three tournaments, international Masters all of them, to collect points for qualifying to the Champs event. The last stage will have 16 teams going at each other grasping at the crown to become champs. VALORANT is having all its firsts at this moment: Riot created a VALORANT event for the first time with the regional First Strike tournaments across the world; the First Strike main event will be starting in early December, and the tournament hit it off so much that it warranted an international-level expansion. Considering the experience Riot has due to their mass-popular League of Legends, it isn’t going to be hard for them to set up a winning tour, although no word has been said about creating a VALORANT franchise system as of yet.
