A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN: EPIC ACQUIRES ‘FALL GUYS’ DEVELOPERS TONIC GAMES
-Fortnite’s creators acquire the developing team behind that ‘other’ super-successful battle royale.
We didn’t see it coming, to speak the truth, but it makes lots of gaming sense: Epic Games, the developing entity behind the lasting Fortnite revolution -and esports organizers & financiers – recently purchased the company behind that other amazing battle-royale, Mediatonic’s ‘Fall Guys.’
Fall Guys was 2020s battle royale sensation, being released only a few days before the pandemic started spreading all over the world. Ironically, it was this very odd mass quarantine situation that brought about sudden success for many, MANY video-games.

Epic Games takes control of developing group behind Fall Guys
Looks like the folks at Epic Games were paying close attention to the precipitous spike in video-game profits due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The spawners of other successful gaming titles like ‘Unreal Tournament’ and ‘Gears of War’ are seemingly looking to impose their rule on the ‘metaverse’, via their latest acquisition of Tonic Games.
WHAT or WHO is Tonic Games?
Well, the very dudes who put smash hit battle royale ‘Fall Guys’ out on the market, no less, to great acclaim and massive commercial success.
“It is no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse, and Tonic Games shares this goal,” – said Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney in an official statement over the weekend. He added: “As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerful games.”
It ain’t a lie! – Epic and other developers are actively working on creating a massive online alternate reality, so the idea of bringing in Tonic Games to their working mix sounds like a fantastic way to multiply their joint efforts and hopefully deliver a ‘metaverse’ product sooner than originally planned. *crossing fingers :p
Fall Guys is a ‘platform battle royale’ game, developed by Mediatonic (Tonic Games Group), and published to both PS4 and PC by Devolver Digital.
How much did Epic Games end up paying?
Not a clue, but we’ll make sure to let you know once it’s out and about.
