ALL SET! RELEASE DATE READY FOR STAR WARS EPISODE 1: RACER

Originally released for Nintendo 64 some 30 years ago, with an intermediate release for PC in between, a remastered version of the Star Wars Episode 1: Racer game plans a triumphant return and was finally announced for the fandom. This time, it will hit Nintendo Switch and PS4 on May 12, developer Aspyr revealed on Thursday.

Little Padawan: Keep Reading You Must!

Originally a tie-in to 1999 “The Phantom Menace”, adapting the movie’s pod-racing sequence into a game (Hmmm. My favorite part that is!), as a spin-off from Anakin Skywalker’s racing scene, the newly-remastered Star Wars Episode 1: Racer takes place on Tatooine, with extra racetracks on other planets. Icky, icky goo!

Developer Aspyr, who was also in charge of recent remasters for Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, announced it will cost $15, and that it will have that retro feel in the split-screen multiplayer, plus the badass Star Wars music and sound effects. It will also have 25 playable characters and racetracks that span eight planets, including Tatooine. The force is strong in this one, for sure!

“It’s a great game and it has emotional resonance,” commented producer James Vicari. “We really believe in reuniting fans with something they cherished, or connecting a new audience with something they may have missed.”

Features will include:

  • 25 playable characters, which include: Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, and Ratts Tyerell
  • 8 planets spanned by racetracks, which include: Tatooine, Baroonda, and Malastare
  • Pit droids for your pod-racer, short-cuts, secrets to boost your lap times, split-screen multiplayer (for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4) plus a LAN multiplayer (for Nintendo Switch)
  • Upgraded controls that are more comfortable in any game configuration
