GEARBOX BOOSTS RUMOR OF CATE BLANCHETT AS LILITH IN BORDERLANDS MOVIE

While Lionsgate held back their comments regarding Cate Blanchett to star as Lilith in their Borderlands game adaptation for the movie, Gearbox may have been either teasing or giving credibility to the rumor when it boosted it on Twitter platform.

And yes, 50-year old Cate Blanchett may end up playing the role of Lilith, a playable vault hunter from the first game, in the Borderlands movie. Fancy that. Since Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford, one of the film’s executive producers, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick are generally good for their word, we might as well count on Cate doing the Lilith.

Eli Roth will be directing the movie, Craig Mazin (of Chernobyl) writing the adaptation, and Blanchett will be playing Lilith the Siren; with Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig in the production area, you can expect lots and lots of gore… and that’s just about it. We’re still in the dark regarding the plot, if it will adapt the first game, or the sequels, or be a totally new story keeping the central characters.

A currently-circulating synopsis has everyone freaked out of their skulls, since it sounds like the movie has the potential to flop over and die; it goes more or less like this: Legendary thief Lilith is in the Atlas Corporation space prison; the CEO tells her she can get her freedom back by rescuing his daughter Tiny Tina on the planet Pandora; the plot twist is that the little girl is the key to unlocking a valuable vault Atlas has its eyes on.

Let’s see how this pans out. It’s game on for Cate!
